About Hubbard

Hubbard is a city in southeastern Trumbull County, and it sits entirely inside Hubbard Township. The city covers about four square miles and had 7,636 residents at the 2020 census, down from a peak of 9,245 in 1980. The surrounding township runs about 24.6 square miles and counted 12,969 people that same year. Hubbard Township reaches east to the Pennsylvania line, bordering Hermitage and Shenango Township in Mercer County. Interstate 80 and State Route 7 meet within the township, and commercial development has grown up around that interchange. The city has no major waterway of its own, though Mud Run and Little Yankee Run flow through it, and the city's motto is Where Opportunity Begins.

How Hubbard Began

In 1795 Nehemiah Hubbard Jr., a merchant from Middletown, Connecticut, bought a tract of about 15,274 acres that became Hubbard Township, and the place still carries his name. His first sale of land was to Samuel Tylee, a surveyor from Connecticut, whom he engaged as his agent in the new territory. In 1801 Tylee, his wife Anna, and his mother-in-law became the first permanent settlers in the township, and the settlement was known as Tylee's Corners before it took Hubbard's name. Many of the early settlers were farmers from New Jersey and other eastern states who cleared the forest for crops. Hubbard stayed a country crossroads with relatively few houses or inhabitants until 1861, when the opening of the coal fields turned the corners into a village.

Coal, Iron, and a Village Grows

The coal boom brought immigrants from Europe to Hubbard through the late 1800s. David Tod, the governor of Ohio during the Civil War, staked a claim on Hubbard land, and as head of the Cleveland and Mahoning Railroad Company he pushed through a railroad from the township to the furnaces in Youngstown. At an 1863 meeting the railroad's superintendent told stockholders that Hubbard's new collieries would supply all the fuel every iron mill in the Mahoning Valley required. In 1867 Trumbull County produced more coal than any other county in Ohio, 7,140,440 bushels, and for the year ending in April 1870, Hubbard Township alone produced 4,905,912 bushels of the county's 9,937,488. Andrews and Hitchcock built a furnace at the north end of Hubbard in 1868, served by a rail line a mile long, and marketed its coal around the Great Lakes as Burnett Bank Coal. Brown Bonnell and Company leased a dozen mines in Coalburg, a mining settlement in the northwestern part of the township that was never a city, town, or village, and whose post office closed in 1913 when the dwindling population could no longer support it. Hubbard had grown enough by 1868 to incorporate as a village, and Nathaniel Mitchell was elected its first mayor.

Harding Park and Hubbard Today

Harding Park began as a farm along a creek called Mud Run, owned by Jacob Kalver, a close personal friend of President Warren G. Harding. In 1922 Kalver gave 37.6 acres to the village for a park, on the conditions that the name Harding Park be perpetual and that the land be used for playgrounds and public recreation. The park was dedicated in 1923, two weeks after Harding died, and it covers 120 acres today. Public education in Hubbard is run by the Hubbard Exempted Village School District, whose three schools share a complex built in 2013.

In time, their pain is gone and they are able to do more than they could before the problem started.

He looks at your spine, your nervous system, and your joints to see how they are working together, and at your health history, your symptoms, and your health goals, before recommending a care plan that is tailored to you. X-ray imaging is available on site when the examination calls for it.

About Your Medication

Keep taking whatever your prescriber has you on, exactly as directed. Dr. John does not prescribe medication and does not tell patients to reduce or stop it; any change to a prescription is a conversation between you and the doctor who wrote it. If your medication is managing things and you want to move better, that is a good reason to come in. If it is not managing things, that deserves an examination rather than a decision made on your own.
